India Under-19s Secure Spot in the World Cup Final with Historic Chase

In a stunning display of batting prowess, the India Under-19 cricket team overcame incredible odds to defeat Afghanistan and secure a place in the final of the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2025/26. The semi-final clash, held in Harare on February 4, was marked by exceptional performances from India’s young stars who chased down a daunting target with remarkable ease.
Aaron George Leads the Charge with Stellar Century

The Indian side was anchored by a formidable century from Aaron George, who scored 115 runs off 104 balls. His innings were complemented by explosive batting from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who brought in a quick-fire 68 runs from just 33 balls. Captain Ayush Mhatre added a solid 62, further bolstering the team’s effort.
Their efforts helped India culminate a chase of 311 runs with 53 balls to spare, marking this as the highest successful run-chase in Under-19 World Cup history. This triumph marks India Under-19’s return to the final stage, maintaining their legacy with a tenth World Cup final appearance.
Afghanistan’s Strong Start Falls Short
Despite impressive centuries from Afghanistan’s Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai, who lifted their team to 310 for 4, Afghanistan’s effort was eclipsed by India’s adept batting. Afghan opener Omarzai secured 2 for 64 but couldn’t stave off the Indian onslaught.
Afghanistan’s innings commenced robustly with openers Osman Sadat and Khalid Ahmadzai establishing a strong foundation. Despite a promising start, their mid-innings and late flourish couldn’t defend against India’s determined charge, culminating in a match that underscored the competitive edge and youthful talent present in both squads.
Looking Ahead to the Final
With this victory, India secures its place in the finals where they will vie for the championship title against England, who won their semi-final match. The performance in this semi-final has certainly cemented India’s status as firm favourites heading into the final.
The tournament has provided a platform for rising stars like George and Sooryavanshi to shine, heralding a promising future for Indian cricket. Their next challenge will undoubtedly support what is already a legendary presence in the Under-19 cricket arena.
