Sarfaraz Khan’s Domestic Performance Speaks Volumes

In a recent statement, Mumbai’s captain Shardul Thakur emphasized that Sarfaraz Khan does not require participation in India A tours to make a comeback to the national Test team. Sarfaraz, who debuted in Test cricket against England in early 2024, last played a Test in October 2024 against New Zealand in Mumbai. That match completed his sixth Test appearance, and India lost the home series 3–0. Despite this, he has produced consistent domestic performances.
Thakur remarked, “If Sarfaraz continues scoring as he has in domestic cricket, he could directly step into the Test series.” This endorsement comes as Sarfaraz missed inclusion in the India A squad for the series against South Africa A, despite having toured with India A in Australia and England in the past.
Sarfaraz’s Road to Recovery and Recent Form

Sarfaraz recently returned to action following an injury hiatus. Prior to his break, he demonstrated strong form with multiple centuries in the Buchi Babu Trophy. In the Ranji Trophy opener against Jammu and Kashmir, Sarfaraz scored 42 and 32. His 42 ended in an unfortunate run out, which cut short a steady innings. Thakur acknowledged his potential under pressure, noting that he frequently delivers significant scores at crucial junctures and has a history of 200 and 250 plus innings when the team is in early trouble.
Mumbai’s next game is highly anticipated against Chhattisgarh, who succumbed to Rajasthan by nine wickets in their opening match. As Sarfaraz readies himself for this contest, Mumbai counts on his ability to produce pivotal innings.
Looking Forward: Mumbai vs Chhattisgarh
With the Ranji Trophy’s ongoing season, attention turns to Mumbai’s forthcoming encounter with Chhattisgarh. Thakur, alongside his team, likely views Sarfaraz as a linchpin for the lineup, reaffirming his confidence in Sarfaraz’s capability to secure crucial wins.
